Tonight, Chancy went to an "open mat" for Wrestling at the high school. They are trying to get some interest for the wrestling team. Chancy came home, (he rode his bike home) looking pale and in pain. They had matched him up to a much bigger guy and the guy slammed him into the mat with his body weight and Chancy came up with a broken collar bone. I had him take off his shirt and his bones looked so different on each side of his body that we decided to go to the ER. His accident happened at 7:00 p.m and we got home at 10:30 p.m. Not bad for the ER. The nurse didn't really want to give me this copy of the x-ray, but the Dr. told her to give it to me. I was too embarrassed to say I needed it for my blog. Tomorrow we'll probably spend the day at the doctor's office and I need to be getting ready for my piano recital. Most of it is done, except for the baking. We'll see how it goes! Chancy isn't in a whole lot of pain. It hurts, but not as badly as I thought it would.Thursday, May 29, 2008

Weekend
We had a really nice Memorial day weekend. Friday after Lincoln got home from work we went to see the new Indiana Jones movie. If you like Indiana Jones, you'd like this movie I think. On Saturday, we mostly spent the day at the baseball field at a tournament McKay's team was participating in. The sunshine and being outdoors was really an uplifter for me. Sunday was especially nice because my Mom and Dad came and went to church with us. McKay was ordained a deacon and will be passing the sacrament next week in church. That will be fun to watch. Mom and Dad had dinner with us after church and then just hung around and talked for a while. It is so GREAT to have them out here in the East with us. Home teachers (well, home teacher) came after that and we always have a good time with Brother Browne. I think his wife doesn't like him to come here because we have such a good time talking he doesn't get home for a while. THANKS, Tiffany! On Monday we got a lot of yard work done. I enjoy the work once I get in to it. I started off out in the yard while everyone was asleep and then when Lincoln woke up, he and the boys came out just as I was getting ready to stop working. I decided that I'd rather get more work done, and stayed longer with the help. In the afternoon we went to a BBQ at one of Lincoln's co-worker's home. What a great way to end the weekend.

Children . . . . .
So, one of my children and I were talking about this lyric thing. He told me I couldn't listen to both the lyrics and the music because I can't do two things at one time!!! The next time I'm doing his laundry I'll tell him I can't do two things at once and he can make dinner. Come on!! Women are the Kings (or queen's?) of multi-tasking!

What are your listening leanings?
Check out my poll on the sidebar. Do you listen to the lyrics of a song or just the melody line? I can tell you, I very seldom listen to the lyrics. When our french foreign exchange student was here last August he asked me what the meaning of the song was that was playing on the radio and I told him I didn't listen to the lyrics, I just listen to the song. He looked at me like I was an alien from Mars. He couldn't even contemplate not understanding a song. I like the beat. I like the timber of the voices. I like the funness of music and really just couldn't give two hoots about the lyrics. I had totally forgotten this conversation until I was listening to Rush Limbaugh the other day. (yes, I listen to Rush). He was talking about this very same thing! He said he used to play songs that he liked on his radio program until people would say, "Rush, do you know what that song means?" and then he would take it off his program because it meant exactly the opposite of his beliefs. Wow! I am exactly the same. I don't think about meanings of songs until people ask or tell me about them. You know that song "Honkey tonk Bedonkey donk?" I just liked the quirkiness of the song, and one day someone told me that he was talking about a ladies behind, and I was totally surprised. I had to listen carefully to the song to figure it out, and it kinda ruined the song for me. There are MANY songs like this. I just don't want to know . . . . I'll just listen if you please!!!

Feeling Left Behind :(
Lincoln is on a guard trip. He left yesterday. The first leg of his trip is to South Carolina where he is doing a training with the guard unit that he is being deployed with early next year. I don't much mind about this trip because he is frequently gone for a few days. It is his NEXT leg of the trip that I am feeling left behind with. His office needed someone to go to Salt Lake and of course, the shoe-in for that trip is Lincoln. So Lincoln is going to get to see Halley and Ryan and I'm not:(. He really needed to go to Salt Lake and was really happy when the opportunity came up. His driver's license is expiring and Utah said they wouldn't renew it without seeing his eyeballs, so he was trying to figure out how to get there and walaa!! things just fell into place! He must be living right.

Curly Girl or Rain Rain Go Away!!
If spring is not just in the air, but in your hair, you might be a curly girl.
1. Do you often wear your hair tied back in a ponytail or carry a pony tail elastic on your arm like a bracelet?
2. Does your hair develop volume in humid, hot, or wet weather?
3. Does your hair make you feel out of control?
4. Do you find yourself crying after every haircut?
5. Do you look at old photographs and recall how you felt about your hair--and yourself--on the day the picture was taken. Was there a strong correlation between your hair and your mood?
6. Do you almost always have a haze of frizz around your head?
7. Do you blow-dry your hair so often that its texture is as dry and brittle as a piece of melba toast?
8. Does your budget for products to straighten or relax your hair exceed your annual tax-deductible contributions to charity?
9. Do you live in fear of humidity, sweating, or any weather or activity that might unmask you as a curly girl?
10. Are you almost always unhappy with your hair?
11. Do you worry about your hair before any big occasion, like a wedding or an important business meeting?
If you answered yes to one or more questions, congratulations! You know who you are. You're a curly girl waiting to happen. Your hair is bristling with movement longing to break free, waves aching to curl, frizz begging for direction.
OH BOY, the above is so so true for me!

How does your garden grow?
The other day, my mom and I were out shopping for plants. We came across this plant called "clematis" I recognized it immediately as one that my neighbor has flourishing in her yard. I have wondered what it was, and now I know. This is my neighbors plant. It is taller than I am, the flowers are huge as you can see next to my hand (which is getting older looking by the minute)
This hosta is in my yard. It gets bigger every year. This is probably its third year. I had to put my foot in there so you could see how big the leaves are. I love it!! When I first moved here, I was used to the Utah openness and sun and had to get used to all the shade in our yard and looking for plants the thrive in the shade. I think shade plants are pretty fun to look for. This year I'm adding some more colorful perennials into the yard.

With my own eyes
Well, yesterday, I went over to mom and dad's so that mom and I could go plant shopping. WOW! are there a lot of great nurseries ran by the Amish and Menanites . . . but that isn't what I wanted to talk about.
I have been really curious to see my Dad's "Sid Cell" in person and see it working. . . . so dad started up the vehicle using totally gasoline at first and then he flipped a switch to supplement the gas with water (hydrogen) and it works great!! Seeing is definately believing. The cell is a lot smaller than I thought it would be by looking at the you-tube videos. I told dad he needed to hold a ruler next to it so people could get an idea how big it is. The car battery has to be placed somewhere else in the car. In this case, he is using a Ford Windstar (a mini van) and so the battery has been placed behind the back seat in the cargo spot. I think the brakes on the vehicle are fixed now and so he is going to do another trial run soon. (or maybe already has)
Dad was telling me today, that the bigger the cell the more you can supplement the gas consumption of the car. Right now, he thinks that he may double the gas mileage but isn't sure yet. Am I right dad? I was getting a little too excited about this, and so dad has had to bring me back to earth about just what it does . . . . . .

Ta Da!
When we do projects, EVERYONE gets involved. We all had a hand in putting in our new floor. Of course, Lincoln carries the biggest load, but we all can have ownership because we all helped. It's not quite done yet, it needs a few finishing touches. I think it turned out well, and I'm so thankful to have it in. The problem is . . . now I can see that the room needs paint . . . and we may have enough flooring left over that we could do one of the bathrooms, and then if we did the bathroom floor, we would need a new vanity, and if we did that we would, of course, need to paint . . . . and so on and so on and so on. Poor Lincoln . . . . he really doesn't enjoy doing this type of thing but does it for me anyway!!! Thanks Hon!

My Dad's "Sid Cell"
Okay, this is a family blog so most of you probably already know this but I think it is pretty exciting. My dad has always been an inventor. He comes up with great ideas but most of the time they don't really go anywhere because of the marketing factor. How do you market great ideas? Well take a look at this one . . . . http://www.youtube.com/v/5PQbfzLVNYg (you'll have to pause my blog music to hear my dad speaking) I hope the link works for you. He actually drove a vehicle with his "Sid Cell" just this last Friday. He wasn't able to test the cell very long because the brakes on the vehicle he was using weren't working well. After some brake work he'll go out on another road test. I don't really know the ins and outs of his "Sid Cell", but basically it turns water into hydrogen and he has figured out a way to make his car run on it. I told him I would be the first in line for a conversion kit. He has had some pretty interesting exploits with the all of his experimenting to include blowing the back window out of his vehicle. It scared him for months but he is back at it again with lots of success. He has almost 60 videos posted on youtube.com. Way to go Dad!!!

Gardening
Today I decided to go out and weed the garden BEFORE I plant anything. We don't have a tiller and so we will probably just loosen the ground around the plants before planting. Can you believe there are already weeds going to seed out there?? Totally amazing. Last year I didn't plant a garden because of Halley's wedding and I could not believe what grew in it without even being planted. There were bushes way taller than me out there and today I found at least 3 different variety of TREES, yes trees, growing in the garden and they were at least a 18 inches tall. Those bushes that were taller than me . . . . I had hacked them out earlier this spring and thought they were gone but NOooooo. Today they were coming back with a fury. The roots on those babies were at least (and I kid you not) 4 inches in diameter and when I pulled on the root probably 3 feet of at least 1 inch diameter root came with them. I broke my (what I call a) woman's shovel digging them out:(. Talk about a good way to get out some frustration. (even though I didn't have any frustration built up at the moment.) I do like to garden. . . . . I even bought some tomato plants today, no squash plants available yet, or many hostas either, I wonder what the deal is??? Probably too expensive to ship because of gas prices, we can blame everything on that right now can't we?
Look Look!!

Piano
McKay has really been getting better with his piano playing lately. It is about TIME!! I really enjoy hearing him play. You'll have to go down and pause my blog music to hear him better. . . . .
