This past week I was able to "do" DC again
with family who were visiting with us.
I usually just send family off
to sight see on their own . . .
but this time my family
WAS the sight I wanted to see.
We had such a great time.
After all these years this "tag" as they call it here,
still makes me chuckle.
These democrats who make fun of the "tea party"
are using the theme of the Boston Tea party
on the license plate!!! Oh the irony!
On the steps of The Jerfferson Memorial.
My niece Hope, Emma, Nephew Tayler, and sis-in-law Lora.
We missed you George!
We hold these truths to be self-evident . . . . . . .
How can our senators and congressmen and president
live in this great city and ignore all that is engraved upon it?
The feeling inside this monument is very hushed and reverent.
(losing my fear Lora!!!)
View from The Jefferson to The Washington.
At the Roosevelt Memorial
I HATE
WAR.
Tayler and Lora
This is the president who put us on the road to social programs . . . . .
Food for thought.
Really? Never seen this before!
After all the hype about this memorial being manufactured in China
I really wasn't looking forward to seeing this one.
REALLY?
I wonder if you could pick this memorial up
I wonder if you could pick this memorial up
and turn it upside down . . . . if it would say
Made In China
on the bottom?
Okay, all that aside, it is a nice memorial
and this man deserves his place on the National Mall.
I just wish it had been
MADE IN AMERICA!
Gazing up at the Martin Luther King Memorial.
With the Jefferson Memorial in the background.
At the WWII monument.
Emma taking a picture of her home state.
Having a war widow with us really gave this trip into DC another meaning.
Each of these stars represent 100 people
who lost their lives in the service of their country.
(all the stars are NOT pictured)
We need to remember freedom is not free.
(Lora is reflected in the wall)
Korean Memorial
This wall at the Korean memorial fascinates me every time I see it.
The figures are invisible until you walk by them and they emerge and disappear again.
There is a very slight etching on the wall.
INCREDIBLE!
(you can see the soldiers of the memorial reflected in the wall as well as some of the tourists)
This picture is taken from the Lincoln Monument.
Mr. Lincoln himself.
Don't know what this building this is.
DC is full of these majestic buildings.
This is an entry to a metro station.
WOW!
The eternal flame at the Kennedy grave sight at Arlington Cemetery.
At the Kennedy grave sight.
Famous Kennedy saying . . . . . very republican of him. :)
This was taken looking out from the "Lee Mansion."
You can see The Lincoln, The Washington, The Capitol and The Jefferson.
The Lee's couldn't come back to their home after the war
because it resides inside "the Union."
AND General Lee fought for the south.
AND the north decided to make a cemetery out of their residence.
Making it not a very comforting place to live.
Thus the Arlington Cemetery was born.
The first six soldiers were buried around Mrs. Lee's rose garden.
The Pentagon from the Arlington Cemetery.
The tomb of the unknown soldier has to be on everyone's list when visiting DC.
A door decoration at the tomb.
Amphitheater at the tomb
McKay thought having his cousins stay here would be "awkward"
but he was sorry to see them go, they got along well.
Singing in the Rain!
It was a little windy!!!!!
Grave markers as far as the eye can see.
Iwo Jima Monument.
The National Cathedral
A truly fantastic and inspiring structure.
The creation.
The Rose Window.
Inside . . . .
The DC Temple - A landmark in DC
and home for us.
I wanted to get a picture of the temple and it's reflecting pond.
The pond was only partially full.
Still pretty!
All this time we've lived in DC
I can't remember actually getting into the Archives
to see the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence.
The lines are always so long they come out of the building.
No lines this day! YAY!
We walked through the modern art garden.
I thought this one looked really stupid
but as you walked nearer it and by it
it CHANGED.
The angles would change from being inverted
to extroverted??? is that the right word?
An optical allusion that you didn't understand until you studied it!
The blue section is actually over-hanging the sculpture
and the yellow and white sections are curved in not out.
If ya know what I mean!!!
There was a lot to think about during our days in DC!
Company has gone, leaving me feel lonely for them.
I cried when they pulled away from the house,
and made my piano student cry too . . . .
what a sweetie she was to cry with me!
