Crazy Quilt

One of my early memories in life was
watching my Grandma Emily work on this crazy quilt.
I don't know if she was trying to put it together,
or had taken it apart and was re-putting it together,
or if she took it apart to use the batting for something else.
She was known to do all of the above.
She like to rework, and reuse and recycle stuff!

I recently asked my Aunt's daughter if she knew where this crazy quilt was,
and if she knew where it was if she could send me pictures of it.
This is the result!

YAY!

This quilt was handcrafted by my 3rd great grandmother
Sarah Foxall Suttenfield, signed 1902.
There were enough squares to make a quilt,
and there is an extra square made by my Grandma Emily
which isn't as "crazy" as the rest of the crazy quilt.

I have always been fascinated by these quilts
that were put together with bits and pieces
of scrap material and embellished with embroidery.

This one is extra special because some of the blood
of the woman who created it runs in my veins.

3rd Great Grandma!

My Grandmother's contribution.  I don't think it is finished.
