Spurt of Energy

A couple of weeks ago,
totally by accident,
I watched a video about getting your peas planted in to your garden
by Presidents day.

I wasn't even looking for gardening videos.
Hmphhhh!

I watched the video and got inspired to get my peas into the garden.
Whether or not the garden is prepared for them.
I got them in the day AFTER President's Day!

Here are my tools,
garden gloves,
garden spade,
a pad to kneel on
(I'm getting old!)
and a bucket of peas that have been soaked over night.

It was between 30 to 40 degrees but the sun was shining and it felt nice outside.
Peas love cool weather!
(which is why I've never planted them in the past, I can't get them in soon enough :)
The soil was really easy to work, and the weeds from last year pulled up nicely
due to the recent rains.

I decided I'd line the peas up next to the fence
giving them a place to climb,
and hopefully leaving room to til or spade the rest of the garden.

My plan was to skewer the soil with my spade and drop a pea in.
But soon decided that was for the birds . . . .
It would take TOOoooooo long.
Speaking of birds, we have had HUGE flocks of them around hear lately.
1000's of them . . . . hopefully they haven't eaten my peas!!!

I decided it would be faster to make a trench and drop the peas in.

It's a short row of peas.
There is NOTHING like the taste of fresh garden peas!!!
Marie Antoinette started a feud over a bowl full of fresh peas.
She took the whole bowl for herself and left the guests gaping at her.
I know why she would do this, but not saying it was right of her!

GROW PEAS GROW!
To be continued . . . . . .

Happy (late) Valentines Day

The land of the blog seems mighty lonely these days.
OH WELL!
If I want company, I'd spend more time on Facebook.
or maybe go out and join the land of the REAL person.
Face-to Face,
Not Facebook, to Facebook.

Which brings up my chosen subject of the day.

My hubby and I have a nit-picky habit lately.
When we go out we love to people watch.

Mostly we watch people with their electronic devices.

The other day we sat across the table
at one of those Japanese steak houses that put on a show
with a family of  5.
They each had an electronic device,
and they each had their noses stuck into them.
They were out to spend time together?
or maybe not.
It didn't look much like quality time.

Yesterday was Valentines day.
We decided to join the hord
and go out and eat.
We took our 16-year-old son.
Not very romantic,
but as I gazed around at the other couples at the restaurant
I realized that we were doing better than most couples out there.
Most of the them were were gazing into the screen of their iphone-like devices,
instead of gazing into their partner's eyes,
and enjoing the company of their loved one.

Hope YOU all had a great Valentine's Day
and got in some eye gazing
and not the other kind!

A Good Read (and watch)!!!

I just got through reading North and South by Elizabeth Glaskell.   It was written around 1854 and made more widely known by the BBC mini-series North and South.  (I'm just assuming this . . . maybe it WAS widely know, just not by me!)

I recently watched the mini-series on Netflix while sick with the flu.  I would NEVER sit around and watch TV that long unless I were sick!  I can read for hours and not feel a guilty bone in my body for sitting around . . . . because my mind is busy right?  Even if my body isn't.  I guess it is the same for TV, but I just feel differently about it.

This book was originally a 20 series magazine article for a woman's magazine, way back when.  They added to the magazine articles and stuck them together to make the book.

I think it was best to watch the mini-series and THEN read the book.  The BBC version really follows the book, except for two major things.  One, (if you are familiar with the movie) where Mr. Thornton beats a worker senseless for smoking in his factory (didn't happen in the book).  And two, how they got together at the end (TOTALLY different!)

I loved reading the book AFTERwards because it goes more in depth about the feelings of the two main characters.  I especially enjoyed the thoughts of Mr. Thornton.  Nice!

I'm not sure I would have liked the book without the movie . . . . but that is the way it happened for me. . . . .

 Worth a read and a watch . . . . just my 2 cents!!
